The Best Features of an Airport Taxi

An airport is a means to an end, not a place you really want to spend an extended amount of time in. Between lining up for tickets and baggage, getting though customs and other areas, all whilst dragging a suitcase, it can really test your patience. Once you have arrived or landed, you probably want to get out of there as soon as possible. Thankfully, once you get an airport taxi that can be a pretty simple task.

There are many great things to be said for getting a cab. Some of the best features of an airport taxi fall into the categories of convenience and reliability.  Although airports are sometimes served by other modes of transport, there really is no better way of getting to or from one than by cab. Here are some of the best features of an airport taxi:

No time restrictions

Many flights take place at inconvenient times. Especially if you are travelling with a budget airline or to a destination that is far away. You could be taking off or landing in the early hours of the morning or extremely late at night. It is most likely the case that even if public transport does serve the airport, it doesn’t run at this time. Or even if it does, it might not be safe to arrive in a new place, or get to the nearest station at this time. A taxi to or from the airport is available 24/7, so you do not need to worry about timing issues.

Drop you to your destination

Unlike public transport, your taxi will drop you right to the door of where you want to go. Door to door service to or from the airport is one a taxi’s best features. You will not have to drag your luggage long distances, meaning you don’t need to worry about having to pack light and sacrifice bringing essentials on your vacation, or business trip.

Not disturbing others’ schedules

Sure, you could ask your friends or family to give you a ride to or from the airport. That might work out once or twice but if you are a frequent traveler, it can be quite inconvenient for them. The beauty of availing yourself of a taxi service is that you are not annoying others to work their schedules around you. An airport taxi driver will efficiently bring you there and back; making everyone involved a winner in this situation.

The Reasons for Booking Taxis Online

Taxis have been around for hundreds of years, and while the service they offer remains relatively the same, the methods by which we may book them is slowly evolving,

Hailing a cab in the street was one of the first ways to get a ride, and later with the invention of phones, people were able to call the taxi companies to reserve or request their cabs. Fast forward further still, and the invention of the internet has made booking taxis online a simple and cost effective way of securing your passage of travel.

There are a number of reasons why you should be booking taxis online; listed below are some of the top reasons and benefits:

Ease of use

Firstly, the ease of booking taxis online is one of the biggest draws. A simple search of the internet will bring up a host of options, allowing you to pick and choose which service is the best price, or value for your needs.

Saving you money
Although not many people are actually aware of this, booking taxis online will usually save you money. Many websites offer discounts to customers, and the rate you are provided with is usually cheaper than you would be quoted over the phone, or by hailing a taxi.  Hailing a taxi often incurs an extra surcharge, so by booking online you are able to circumvent this to get a better deal.

Increased reliability
Many of you will be able to relate to that feeling of waiting for a taxi, worrying whether it is going to show up or not. This can be a stressful experience, particularly if you are waiting for a lift to the airport.

With booking taxis online, however, your reliability is increased, as you will receive a reference number that can be traced and tracked with the company. Booking online also ensures that the details are delivered straight into the system, reducing the chance of the taxi not showing up at the correct time or place.

The ability to compare prices
Using the internet for booking taxis online also allows you to quickly and easily compare prices of different companies. If you are taking a long journey then there can be a surprisingly large difference in the price, so it is worth taking the time to compare.

Having a set price

Another money-oriented positive of booking taxis online is that you may be given a set price. Hailing a cab, or even ordering by phone will usually only give you estimates of the cost. Knowing the exact price will allow you to ensure that you have the right money and that there are no nasty surprises when you come to pay.

Safety
Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, is that booking taxis online is a safer choice then the other options. Booking online will ensure the taxi is accredited and legitimate, and will also ensure you are able to trace back to the driver if you experience any problems with your ride.

Edmonton Taxi and Cabs - How they have changed over the Years

In Edmonton, Taxi and Cabs have revolutionized the way we go about our day to day business, but they have also developed a lot since they were first invented.

In both Paris and London there were horse-drawn for-hire taxis known as Hackney Carriages, operating as early as the 17th century, with the first of these documented back in 1605 in London.

The next major development was not until the mid-1800’s, when an architect from York designed the Hansom Cab. They were light enough to be pulled by just one horse, as opposed to several, and the efficiency of this ensured it quickly became the norm worldwide.

Then came the invention of the Taximeter in 1981 which was an electronic device that calculated passenger fares judged by the distance and time. This is where the name ‘taxi’ emerges from, and it has shaped the future of the industry to this day.

While in Edmonton taxi and cabs do not have a notable design or style, such as you would find in New York, or England for example, there is still a worldwide standard practice for taxis, which has been unchallenged until now.

The rise and possible fall of Uber

The latest development with Edmonton Taxi and Cabs, as in other areas, is the recent rise of the mobile application Uber.

Uber allows anyone with a car and a smartphone to taxi people around, with the mobile application taking a cut of the money.

Currently undergoing various different court battles with countries and cities alike, it remains to be seen if this will become the future for Edmonton Taxi and Cabs and elsewhere, or whether it is just a brief development in the history of the taxi. Only time will tell.

The taxi service in Edmonton battles mobile app Uber, will there be a winner?

The streets of Edmonton have been divided in a legal dual that is happening not just in Edmonton, but also across Canada and others parts of the world.

The battle lines have been drawn, with the licenced taxi service in Edmonton facing off against the new and largely unregulated challenger, Uber. Much has been made about the meteoric rise of the mobile app, with controversies and lawsuits rife.

The City of Edmonton is attempting to impose an injunction on Uber to cease operations in the city, a move which has already happened in Germany, where they have issued a nationwide ban on the popular smartphone application.

Other countries such as India are also in the process of trying to halt its dramatic rise, a move that the local taxi service in Edmonton hopes is imitated throughout Canada.

The differences between Uber and a taxi

Most people will have some experience with the taxi service in Edmonton or other cities in Canada, where the procedure is as old as the taxi business itself. You can call or hail a licenced taxi which will then take you to your specified location, with the driver requiring a taxi licence to operate.

Uber is slightly different, as it offers anyone with a car the opportunity to earn money by matching people who need a lift, with ones who are offering the service for payment. This has its own safety implications, as recent stories of assault and harassment have emerged in various countries.

Benefits of Taxi Service in Edmonton

The taxi service in Edmonton, to use as a prime example, has been in place for generations and with that history comes a trust and accountability between the consumer and the taxi service. Uber may yet shake things up, but for a safe and reliable ride, using the licenced taxi service in Edmonton is highly recommended.
